Caguas, Puerto Rico – July 14, 2025 – Puerto Rican amateur boxing is gearing up for a historic event with the Ninth Miguel Cotto Padre Cup, taking place from July 17 to 20 in an unprecedented venue: the Carmita Jiménez Hall at the Centro de Bellas Artes de Caguas.
This edition marks a rebirth for the tournament, thanks to the vision of Ivonne Class, director of the Centro de Bellas Artes and renowned entertainment promoter, who proposed transforming this cultural space into a ring of opportunities for young talent. Her initiative was enthusiastically supported by the Mayor of Caguas, William E. Miranda Torres, who fully backed the realization of this high-profile sporting event.
“When Ivonne expressed her interest in bringing a sporting event to Bellas Artes, we knew it was the perfect moment to revive the Cup,” explained Evangelista Cotto, tournament organizer and brother of the honoree. “This venue gives a new dimension to amateur boxing, with a production worthy of the greats,” he added.
The Cup, which began in 2011 as a tribute to legendary trainer Miguel Cotto Sr., will feature clubs from across the Island as well as invited delegations from the United States. The official weigh-in will take place on July 16 at the Bairoa Gymnasium and other designated locations.
Admission is free, and matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. A large turnout of fans, families, and sports enthusiasts is expected for an event that promises to be unforgettable.
